How to Make the Easiest Spicy Margarita

Updated: Apr 29, 2020

I am a huge fan of fresh spicy margaritas- the balance of sweet, spicy, and tart is just right! I know most people use margarita mixes. Trust me, I was one of them until I realized how easy it is to make a fresh margarita! Nothing beats fresh squeezed limes. I recommend using a good quality tequila to make the best homemade margarita. You can use a jalapeño-infused tequila such as Tanteo. But I recommend simply placing half a jalapeño in your tequila bottle for a few hours (to overnight) to make your own jalapeño-infused tequila.

The Easiest Spicy Margarita Recipe

Serving Size: 1 Cocktail

Recipe can be doubled or multiplied to serve in a pitcher.

Ingredients:

Trader Joe’s Chile Lime Seasoning blend or Salt

Ice Cubes

2 Oz Tequila- **See my notes on making your own Jalapeño infused Tequila

1 Oz Triple sec

1 Oz Lime juice freshly squeezed

1 Lime cut into wedges for garnish

1/2 Tablespoon agave nectar

1/2 Jalapeño Pepper- cut into thin round slices

Directions:

Rim the Glass: Use a lime wedge to coat the rim of your glass. Pour a layer of Trader Joe’s Chile Lime Seasoning blend (or Salt) onto a small plate. Dip the rim of the glass into the seasoning, rotating until it is coated.

Make the Spicy Margarita:

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes halfway. Add tequila, triple sec, lime juice, agave nectar, and jalapeño slices. Close tightly and shake vigorously! Put ice cubes in your rimmed glass and strain drink into glass. Garnish with lime and jalapeños (optional)

**Notes:

Make variations using mangos or your favorite fruit. The fruit will add natural sweetness to balance the tart taste of lime.

If you do not like it spicy, skip adding the jalapeño slices to your shaker.

Instead of using a Jalapeño infused Tequila, make your own! Simply add half a large jalapeño into your regular tequila for a few hours then pull it out. So Easy!

I recommend testing your jalapeños to check their spice level before starting. Use the ones that are best for your level of heat.

Cheers! Enjoy your refreshing Spicy Margarita!
